How we respond to the experience of climate change – contrasting the more optimistic and utopian with the ore harshly pragmatic.

Climate change brings with it a shifting set of vulnerabilities, disadvantages, and the potential for loss. While most theories and movements for climate justice have focused normative arguments for the prevention of climate change at the global level, the reality is that climate change is already having impacts on vulnerable communities on the ground, affecting a range of basic needs.

This symposium will examine the potential of a shift in considerations of climate justice to the condition of adaptation, and explore a range of coming impacts and vulnerabilities – to local cultures, food security, environmental resources, and health. We will also address a variety of adaptive designs and issues – how we respond to the experience of climate change – contrasting the more optimistic and utopian with the ore harshly pragmatic.
