On Wednesday 8 February SEI in partnership with SYDNEY IDEAS had the pleasure of hosting world-renowned climate scientist Professor Michael Mann in a discussion of climate change denial in the age of the ‘Trumpocene.’ We are happy to have captured the lecture on video, which is now available for you viewing on the SEI YouTube page and below.
Professor Michael Mann’s lecture provided a concise summary of the scientific evidence of climate change and discussed the details of his latest book, The Madhouse Effect which he wrote with artistic collaboration with Washington Post editorial cartoonist Tom Toles. Mann provided reasons why we should care about climate change, and detailed the absurd efforts by special interests and partisan political figures to confuse the public and attack the science, furthering climate change denialism.
Despite the monumental nature of the challenge we face to overturn climate change denial, and the seeming inability of political leadership to respond to the climate crisis, Professor Mann’s lecture highlighted ways forward in mitigating future harm and reasons for cautious optimism.
